How to Create a LinkedIn Profile That Gets Results

Most professionals are on LinkedIn, but having a profile isn’t the same as having one that works.

If this has caught your attention, chances are it’s because you’re here for that exact reason.

You want your profile to do more than just exist - you want it to open doors.

If you’re not getting profile views, connection requests from the right people, or messages from potential clients, it probably means your profile isn’t showing your value clearly.

The good news?
You don’t need to be a content expert to fix this.
You just need to be clear, focused, and intentional about how you show up.

Here’s how to build a profile that gets noticed for the right reasons.

Your Profile Photo

People will judge your profile in seconds, so let’s start with your photo.

  1. Use a clean, high-quality image that actually looks like you.
  2. Face the camera, keep the background plain, and wear something you’d wear to meet a client, or that aligns with your brand
  3. A genuine smile goes a long way!
  4. Avoid selfies, group shots, filters, or holiday photos

This one simple change makes people more likely to take you seriously.

Your Headline

This isn’t the place for your job title.

Your headline is visible everywhere, from connection requests to comments; and it should be doing more than stating your role.

Instead, make it clear who you help, what you help them achieve, and how you do it.

For example, if you are a Financial Adviser:
Helping professionals build financial security through long-term planning and personalised advice Or:
Helping business owners reduce tax and grow wealth with practical financial strategies

Or perhaps you are an Accountant:
Helping small business owners stay tax-efficient and financially organised with straight-talking advice Or:
Helping busy professionals take control of their finances with simple, smart accounting solutions

Whatever your industry, keep it specific, outcome-focused, and true to how you work with clients.

Your Banner Image

Think of your banner as your online billboard.
It should support your message and make it obvious what you do.

Use bold text to explain your service or who you help.

Keep it simple, avoid clutter, and make it easy to read at a glance.

Add a soft call to action like:

  • Book a quick call
  •  Download a free guide
  • Learn more

It’s a small space, but it does a big job.

If content creation isn’t your thing, there are loads of templates available on Canva, and inside halio.ai you’ll find a full Canva library with ready-made designs you can customise to fit your industry and brand.

And if you’d rather outsource it, jump on Fiverr - you can get a banner designed to match your branding for under $50.

Your About Section

Most people use this section to talk about themselves.
You should use it to talk to your ideal client.

Use storytelling and persuasive copy. PAS Framework: Problem, Agitate, Solution.

  1. Start with the problem (pain points) they’re facing.
  2. Explain why it matters.
  3. Then introduce your approach and how you help.
  4. Wrap it up with what it’s like to work with you.
  5. End with a clear next step.

Think of it like a short first conversation and remember this could be your next client reading this.

Keep it friendly, helpful, and easy to follow. Make sure the person reading leaves knowing exactly how you can help them.

Your Featured Section

This is a great space to guide people toward something useful.
Only include content that earns attention.

Examples of what you could highlight:

  • Lead Magnet: Free resource (guide, checklist, case study)
  • A short video explaining what you do
  • Your most valuable content and offer
  • Upcoming masterclass/event
  • A testimonial
  • Join a network/community
  • A link to book a chat

Don’t just link to a hard sales page. Warm people up first by offering something valuable. Think of it like a first date, you’re not going to ask someone to marry you when you’ve just met.

Calls to Action

If you don’t tell people what to do, most won’t do anything. Which is crazy, but it’s true.

Add simple calls to action throughout your profile.
Invite them to book a call, send a message, or download a free resource.
Make sure you keep the language natural and easy to follow.

For example

  • Want to chat? Send me a quick message
  • Looking for support with X? Book a call here
  • Download my free guide to learn more
  • Apply for a strategy session
  • Join my private community

Guide them gently, but clearly

Keep It Updated

Your profile should reflect where you are now, not where you were six months ago.

Things change, your focus, your offers, the kind of clients you’re working with, the results you’re getting.

If your profile doesn’t reflect that, you could be missing out on the right people finding you.

Aim to review your profile every one to three months.
It doesn’t need to be a full rewrite, just check your headline, summary, featured section, and experience, and update anything that feels out of date.

Make sure your offers, client wins, testimonials, and next steps are still relevant.

And stay active:

  • Engage with posts.
  • Connect with people in your space.
  • Don’t be afraid to start conversations.

It’s often the small, consistent actions that lead to the biggest results.

Quick tip:
Set a reminder every month to do a quick profile check. Even a few small changes can help your profile feel more current and more aligned with what you actually do today

Remember

People will often check out your profile before they ever reach out.
Before they message you.
Before they book a call.
Before they decide to work with you.

Your profile doesn’t need to be perfect, but it does need to be clear, genuine, and easy to understand.

At Halio.ai, we help professionals stay visible with content that actually sounds like them. So when someone clicks your name, make it a place that builds trust before you even say a word.

Was this helpful? - If so, share it with someone you know that could benefit from this too.
